Schism

Written by Rebekah Postupak

for #MondayMixer

Gather round, younglings, and I will tell a tale that will rend your hearts and souls in such a schism, you will never dare sleep again. Prepare–

Grandpa, did Mommy say it was okay for you to tell us this story?

Shut up, Sebina. Grandpa knows what he’s doing.

‘Tis a tale of darkness, when hearts were mawkish and somnolent, when kings garnered lifeless trinkets in place of wisdom, and swanked dull, trickling streams of metal in place of courage.

 This isn’t a story. Where’s the princess?

Shut up, Sebina! This is how good stories start!

A TIME OF TRAGEDY, yet one which eventually forged the greatest heroes the world has ever known, they who finally understood “humane” meant weakness, but “draconian” meant majesty, nobility, power—

I’m hungry. Did you even bring us a princess or a knight, Grandpa?

Shut your maw, Sebina. Of course he did. Right, Grandpa? –Grandpa?
